Gerber has an unwavering commitment to nourishing a healthier generation, one baby at a time. The Gerber Medical Hub Team supports the science and nutrition behind our products. We are a group of Nutritionists, Registered Dietitians, Lactation Counselors, and Food Scientists. Our goal is to provide credible scientific information on nutrition topics relevant to Healthcare Professionals to advance the health and wellbeing of infants and toddlers in the first 1000 days.
Our History
Nestlé and GERBER® have long, rich histories of supporting the healthy growth and development of infants and children. In 1867, pharmacist Henri Nestlé was asked to help find a way to nourish a neighbor’s infant who couldn’t breastfeed. The baby thrived on the special mixture Henri created: the world’s first infant formula. Soon Nestlé’s baby formula was being sold in much of Europe, and the first infant food company —Farine Lactée Henri Nestlé—was formed. GERBER® Products Company was founded in 1928 by Daniel and Dorothy Gerber. Following the advice of their pediatrician, Dorothy and Daniel were hand-straining fruits and vegetables for their 7-month-old daughter. After several months of this time-consuming exercise, the Gerber’s realized they could save time by straining and canning fruits and vegetables at the family’s Fremont Canning Company. Soon workers in the plant requested samples for their babies, and the legacy of GERBER® baby foods began. Throughout the years, Nestlé and GERBER® have continued to provide safe, high quality, nutritious foods.
